We are heading up to Mount Pisgah Campground in North Carolina for the weekend of September 10-12th. While there we are going to be exploring various trails in the area. We have not decided what trails we will be doing yet. Closer to the date we will have the trails posted we will be hiking with further descriptions. We plan on hiking Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Since we have never hiked in this area before we are not familiar with the trails so we may miss a turn, have to back track, a 10 mile hike may turn into 14 miles. You need to be willing for the unexpected to happen and have an adventurous spirit. I want to remind all this is a SCOUTING camping/hiking trip. Everyone can do all or none of the hikes we plan. We have no problem if someone wants to hang back and have dinner all prepared for us when we get back from our long hike. Saturday we will be the longer day of hiking. We are NOT power hikers or trail runners. We will maintain a moderate pace and stop as needed and we will hike as a group. If we get lost we ALL get lost together.
We decided against a group campsite and for everyone to make their own reservations. Our campsite is Loop D 21. There are still quite a few campsites available that are close to D21. 6 people are allowed in a campsite with 1 vehicle (there is a $5 fee if there is another vehicle). Anyone is free to buddy up with another person at a campsite and share the cost but this is something you will need to arrange amongst yourself. This way when we are all tired from hiking together all day we can all go back to our own campsites to relax and kick back. You can make your reservation by going to www.recreation.gov and in seach area type in Mount Pisgah Campground and then follow the instructions. Please let us know once your reservation has been made.
Mount Pisgah Campground is at 4,980 ft so it should be cool up there especially at night so be prepared. There are hot showers, flush toilets, water spigots, picnic tables, fire grates and lantern posts. Everyone is responsible for their own food and drinks.
This camp ground is 1 1/2 hours away from Greenville.
For those of you that can not arrive until Friday Eve or even Saturday that is OK!! Just come!! We will have plenty of trail options for those arriving at different times. We are cross posting this event for Atlanta, Asheville and Greenville so it will be a great way to make some new tri-state friends.
If any further questions feel free to email either Anissa or Anita.
