Leading Events and Becoming an Organizer

Leading Events and Becoming an Organizer

OACS is member run and all of our events are led by volunteers who have an enthusiasm for the outdoors just like you. We're the largest and most active outdoor club in the Southeast and we welcome anyone to lead an outdoor adventure. In fact there are some great benefits to leading events! Are you ready to lead an event for OACS?

OACS has three different levels of organizers depending on your level of experience and commitment.

Event Hosts

If you're interested in leading a one time event we'll start you off as an Event Host. No commitment is required beyond that event. The Local Organizer or an Assistant Organizer must post the event for you. They'll also work with you on planning, posting, and managing the event. This is a great option for those interested in leading occasional events with the help of another organizer.

In order to become an Event or Assistant Organizer you must have been an Event Host at least once.

Event Organizers

If you've hosted a few events for OACS, enjoyed it, and want to post your own events, we'll set you up as an Event Organizer. Event Organizers may post their own events to the calendar. OACS has access to many great resources to help you plan your events. A current organizer will show you how to access those resources, plan events, post them to the site, and manage them. This is a great option for those who will only post an occasional event but are comfortable posting on their own.

Assistant Organizers

If you're able to commit to leading regular events you'll be invited to become an Assistant Organizer. Assistant Organizers plan, post, and manage their own events. OACS has some great sponsors which allows us to reward our committed organizers. There are some great benefits to becoming an Assistant Organizer. Besides making many great friends on your events you can earn credits toward paid events. It's like getting paid to have fun!

Event Credits

For 2010 our credits will be given on a monthly basis. In any month in which you lead one event you'll receive a $5 credit. In any month in which you lead two or more events you'll receive a $10 credit. You must be an Assistant Organizer at least three calendar year months to use your credits. Credits can be used for any OACS paid event. Credits earned in 2010 must be used by the OACS Holiday Party in 2011. Credits are not transferable.

To become an Assistant Organizer you must have the approval of your Local Organizer.

If you're ready to lead an event please click your local organizer below and send them an email.
